COVID-19 Procedures

Welcome to the 2022-23 School year; may  it be a year of happiness and good health as we are committed to, "building  our future together." Below I have listed the most current information regarding COVID and Health Services. The information below includes the most current changes that were just published by the LA County Department of Health on the afternoon of August 10 as it applies to schools, all district employees, and students. Masks :

  •  Masks are highly recommended especially when indoors and in crowded situations. 
  • Masks are currently not required in PUSD and they are not required in LA County.
    • The exception to this is that masks are required in the quarantine and isolation rooms. 
    • Masks are also required for individuals who were positive and test negative on Day 5 or later, these individuals are required to wear a mask Days 6-10, if they can't or won't they will need to remain in isolation at home and are not allowed to come to school/work.

 

Close Contacts:

  •  Anyone who is a "Close Contact" with an individual who tested positive for COVID is required to wear a mask for 10 days following the last exposure to the positive individual and they are required to take a COVID test on Day, 3, 4 or 5. 
    • Close contact for students is defined as having been inside (building/room or vehicle) within 6 ft of the positive individual for 15 minutes or longer over a 24-hour period.
    • CAL/OSHA defines close contact for employees as shared indoor airspace with the infected person for 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period.
  • Any student in the room for 15 minutes or longer over a 24-hour period with someone who tests positive is required to be informed that they were in the same room with an individual who tested positive and it is highly recommended that they test on Day 3, 4, or 5 and it is recommended that they mask for 10 days. 
  • For students who have an approved mask exemption:
    • (Masks exemptions are for students younger than age 2 or for those who have an approved medical exemption) and have been exposed, students should wear a face shield with a drape at the bottom if their condition allows. 
      • For students with a mask exemption who cannot tolerate a mask or a face shield with a drape at the bottom, they may remain on campus if ALL THE FOLLOWING ARE MET: 
        • 1)they remain asymptomatic (they have no symptoms of COVID)
        • 2) monitor for symptoms for the 10 days after last exposure, and 
        • 3) test for COVID-19 twice during the 10 days after last exposure, once during days 3- 5 and once during days 6-9, and remain negative. 
          • Students who cannot mask after exposure and cannot meet these requirements must remain at home until AFTER Day 10 of the last exposure.

 

COVID Testing for 2022-23:

  • COVID Testing for employees and students will be offered at each school site on a weekly basis again this year.  
  • Student-athletes are strongly encouraged to test weekly
    • If 1 student on a sports team or a coach tests positive the entire team will need to test
  • Employees who are not fully vaccinated are still required to test weekly. 
  • Asymptomatic students and staff who are close contacts may remain at school but are required to test on Days 3, 4 or 5 and mask for 10 days. 
  • Anyone who tests positive must test negative in order to return on Day 6-10 and they would be required to wear a mask after testing negative on Days 6-10. 
  • The COVID Testing Consent Form for students is to be signed by the parent for the 2022-23 school year. 

 

Vaccinations & Testing Locations:

  • All School sites have weekly COVID Testing available on a set day and time for employees, students, and volunteers.
  • Currently COVID Testing is also available at:
    • The Village at Indian Hill 1444 East Holt Blvd in Pomona inside Entrance Door #1 on the following days and times:
      • Sundays from 9am-3pm
      • Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays from 9am-5pm
      • Please arrive 30 minutes prior to closing time unless you have an appointment
    • COVID Testing is also available at the District Office in the Foyer of the Auditorium on the following days and times:
      • Fridays from 7am-4pm 
        • (With the exception of August 12 which will be 9am-4pm)
        • Please arrive 30 minutes prior to closing time unless you have an appointment.
  • COVID Vaccinations are available at:
    • The Village at Indian Hill 1444 East Holt Blvd in Pomona inside Entrance Door #1 on the following days and times:
      • Fridays 9am-5pm
      • Saturdays 9am-5pm
      • Please arrive 30 minutes prior to closing time unless you have an appointment
  • FREE T Dap Vaccinations are available at:
      • The Village at Indian Hill 1444 East Holt Blvd in Pomona inside Entrance Door #1 on:
        • Friday, August 12 only 9am-5pm
        • Saturday, August 13 only 9am-5pm (unless the supply is used on 8/12)
        • Limited supply, available first come first served, no appointments

 

Isolation Room: 

  • Sites will still be required to maintain an isolation room on each campus and identify who will man the isolation room when needed. 
  • Health Assistants and Nurses should not be in the isolation or quarantine rooms. 
  • DO NOT send students who are experiencing COVID-like symptoms to the Health Office. 
    • The Health office needs to remain a non-COVID contaminated space and an area to service students with needs such as but not limited to: diabetic needs, inhaler/nebulizer use for asthmatic students, medication administration, injury, and health referral needs. 

 

Travel: 

  • It is recommended that travelers test before and after traveling. 
  • There is no quarantine required for students or staff returning from state or international travel at this time. 
  • It is highly recommended that students and staff test on a weekly basis and at the start of the new school year. 

 

Monkeypox Update: 

  • Monkeypox is caused by infection from the Monkeypox virus.
  • It is a rare and contagious disease that does not naturally occur in the US. 
  • We are seeing cases in LA County and more each day. 
  • The Monkeypox virus can spread by: 
    • Touching Monkeypox lesions on a person’s skin 
    • Touching contaminated objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding, towels), and surfaces that have been in contact with someone with Monkeypox
    • Coming into contact with respiratory droplets or secretions from the eyes, nose and mouth from a person with Monkeypox  
  • Monkeypox Symptoms include: 
  •    Rash, bumps or blisters (be mindful that at  this time of the year mosquito bites are very common and we have many students with eczema, acne, and other skin conditions)
  • Fever and headaches 
  • Muscle aches 
  • Swollen lymph nodes 
  • Sometimes cough or sore throat 
  • Symptom onset ranges from 5 – 21 days
